Estevan emergency crews called to vehicle-pedestrian collision

ESTEVAN — Members of the Estevan Police Service, Estevan Fire Rescue Service and the Estevan Emergency Medical Services were dispatched to a vehicle-cyclist collision at Sixth Avenue and Second Street on July 3. 

According to the EPS, minor injuries were sustained by the rider and significant damage occurred to the vehicle. The matter is still under investigation.

Also on July 3, EPS members were dispatched to a playpark in central Estevan for a report of a suspicious female who was scaring children. Officers were busy on another call at the time, but the female was later identified and asked not to return to the park.

Estevan EMS requested police assistance with a patient at a residence in the Pleasantdale area. EMS transported the patient to St. Joseph's Hospital for further assessment.

Police were called to a residence on two separate occasions for reports of various crimes that had been committed. Complainants were spoken to and that matter is under investigation.

A 62-year old man turned himself in as he had failed to attend court and had an outstanding warrant. He was arrested and lodged in cells, and will appear in Weyburn Provincial Court on July 4 to speak to the matter.

A 37-year old woman from Estevan was arrested for criminal harassment. She will be released on conditions of no contact with the victims and will appear in court at a later date to speak to the charge.

Police were requested by hospital staff to assist in locating a patient who left prior to being medically assessed. Members located the individual and returned the person to the hospital for continued evaluation.

The EPS received a report of mischief to property at a local service station. An individual drove away from the gas pump and caused damage to the gas hose, but failed to report it to the property owner. The driver was located and advised it was their responsibility to report the damage to the business owner or it could become a criminal matter for failing to remain at the scene of an accident.

Police received a report of criminal harassment, uttering threats and dangerous driving. The matter is still under investigation.

An individual attended the police station to lodge a complaint regarding criminal harassment, following an interaction with another person that was not cordial. As it was a single interaction, it did not meet the requirements to be considered criminal harassment. The individuals were counselled on how to interact more appropriately.

The EPS received a report of a female being assaulted at a local hotel. Upon arrival, members determined that a verbal argument had occurred but not an assault.

Police mediated a dispute over family property. The two parties were separated for the evening and it was recommended that they further discuss the issues only after taking some time to calm down.

A set of keys was found by a member of the public July 2 and dropped off at the police station. Anyone who has lost their keys can contact the EPS to identify them and have them returned.

Police received a request to do a well-being check on an individual believed to be in Estevan. The investigation determined that the person’s last know location was in Regina, so the matter was passed onto the Regina Police Service for further follow up.

EPS received a report of two individuals involved in a dispute in a vehicle parked near a local hotel. Members attended, spoke with both individuals and mediated a resolution.

A witness reported observing a person sitting in a running vehicle and smoking marijuana. EPS members were occupied with another investigation at the time, and when able to attend the location, the vehicle had already left. The EPS reminds the public that consuming marijuana in a running vehicle could result in Criminal Code charges for being in care and control of a vehicle while under the influence, along with charges under the Cannabis Control Act.

Police received a report of mischief to a residence that is still under investigation. During the nightshift two additional complaints were received at the same residence for a domestic disturbance and an unwanted person. In both instances, members attended and mediated between family members involved in the disputes.

A local business reported individuals are removing shopping carts from their premises and keeping them for their own personal use. The matter is still under investigation and if someone is located with a shopping cart being used for purposes other than transporting purchases to a vehicle, they might be charged with possession of stolen property.

Police performed a number of curfew checks during night shift and all those individuals checked were found to be in compliance with their conditions.
