Making a splash in the rain gauge party

The Great Saskatchewan Rain Guage social media page is a forum for the province's residents to share rain measurements across Sask.

SASKATCHEWAN — Lightning often tries to steal rain’s thunder, so an enthusiastic group of people formed a dedicated page on social media encouraging residents across the province to share their rain gauge measurements throughout the summer. Check out and join in the experience.

While some people find it encouraging to know it can still rain, others are disheartened to see rainfall they had been hoping for fall elsewhere.

It doesn’t solve the dry conditions in southern Saskatchewan but seems to be a great way to connect people in the province around a shared topic — one frequently discussed at coffee row tables.

On July 6, a forecasted system brought varying amounts of rain to Saskatoon, with up to two inches reported on the west side of the city and close to an inch on the north end.

While some summer enthusiasts consider rain a damper on their outdoor fun, drought-stricken land is desperate for it to pour into parched parts of the province.

As my wise mother-in-law always used to say, “You can’t make it rain, and you can’t make it stop.”
