WEYBURN – A team of Weyburn firefighters has joined the frontline efforts to combat raging wildfires in northern Saskatchewan, answering a call for reinforcements.

Early Friday morning, three members of the Weyburn Fire Department (WFD) departed for the Beauval area, equipped with a wildland utility truck and essential gear. The deployment comes at the request of the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency (SPSA) as part of a province-wide mobilization to contain the fires threatening northern communities.

“With very little notice, our members didn’t hesitate,” said Deputy Fire Chief Mike Wock. “They’re well-trained, experienced and ready to support where needed. We’re incredibly proud of their professionalism and dedication.”

“Our thoughts are with the communities facing these fires, and with the first responders working tirelessly to keep people safe,” said Mayor Jeff Richards. “We’re proud to see Weyburn stepping up.”

The WFD remains in close contact with the SPSA and will continue to support efforts as needed.

This deployment demonstrates the important role both full-time WFD staff and paid-on-call firefighters through the Weyburn Fire Association serve in the City of Weyburn’s emergency response efforts.
