REDVERS — The Redvers Communities in Bloom committee has been keeping quite busy, especially with cleanup of the one of the green spaces in town, as CAO Tricia Pickard noted in her report to council during last week’s regular meeting on June 24.

“Our biggest thing is we cleaned up the little green space that we have, and it’s actually not even owned by us, but we usually tend to it,” Pickard explained. “They cut a whole bunch of trees and just cleaned it right up. It hadn’t been touched in years, and it looks awesome.”

A total of 27 trees were also planted, thanks to a grant from TCTrail for $1,600. The town matched that donation for a total of $3,200 available.

“The plan moving forward is to plant a few trees each year, increasing the tree canopy in our community,” Pickard said.

Communities in Bloom judges are coming to Redvers during the last week of July, and this is the second year Redvers has participated in the program.

Firefighters continue to fundraise

In a continued effort to raise money for a new fire truck, the Redvers Volunteer Fire Department held their annual steak night, which was a success.

“They had a really great event,” Pickard said. “The firefighters always put on such an incredible night.”

While final numbers are not available, the steak night is anticipated to add around $20,000 to the overall goal. Currently, the Redvers firefighters have $103,860.46 raised as of June 20.

Transit bus coming

Amidst a few delays, the new transit bus is anticipated to arrive in Redvers over the next couple of weeks. A window broke on the unit, keeping it in Regina for the meantime.

“There was a stone that got through one of the windows somehow, so they had to order that, and it took a long time,” Pickard said.
