Estevan police arrests one for drug trafficking during weekend

A 31-year-old Gainsborough man was lodged in cells and subsequently released on an undertaking in front of a justice of the peace.

ESTEVAN — Patrol members with the Estevan Police Service arrested and charged a 31-year old man from Gainsborough on May 31 for trafficking methamphetamine.

He was lodged in cells and subsequently released on an undertaking in front of a justice of the peace. He will attend Estevan Provincial Court at a later date to speak to the charges. No further details were immediately released.

In other recent police news, EPS members attended to a May 29 report of a domestic disturbance occurring in the street in a central Estevan neighborhood. Members could not locate the origin of the domestic, but they located a large family gathering outside and the group admitted to being quite loud. No further police involvement was necessary.

The EPS received a call through the Report Impaired Drivers line. The caller was able to provide a vehicle description, licence plate and last known direction of travel, but members were not able to locate the vehicle.

Police were dispatched to a domestic disturbance in north Estevan. While en route, one of the parties left the scene, allowing members to slow their response. Both parties were spoken to and it was determined a verbal argument had taken place. Police mediated and no further interventions were needed.

While the EPS was on another call for service, a report came in of two vehicles travelling at high rates of speed north on Kensington Avenue. Vague descriptions of the vehicles were provided and they were not located.

Police were called to the Walmart parking lot as a youth felt like he was being harassed. Members spoke with some of the parties involved and that matter is still under investigation.

Police received a report of a suspicious person towing an air compressor behind his bike. The person was last seen heading westbound in the 600-block of Third Street. Police did extensive patrols of the area and did not locate anyone.

EPS members attended to a fight at a local bar on May 31. The involved parties were spoken to and sent home after being warned about their behaviour.

Following a report of an incident at a local laundromat, a 68-year old Estevan man was arrested and charged for mischief. He was processed and released on an undertaking with conditions not to attend the business.

EPS members attended to an Estevan residence to assist a family dealing with their adult daughter’s mental health and addictions issues.

A report of an assault at a local residence was received during nightshift. A female was transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital as a result of her injuries and the matter remains under investigation.

Members attended to a local financial institution in response to an alarm. On arrival it was determined to be false, and employees of the business were present and spoken to.

Members responded to a complaint June 1 of several youths climbing on an abandoned building it the central area. Police located the youths and cautioned them against trespassing on the property before sending them on their way.

An alarm monitoring company reported motion occurring at the front doors of a business in central Estevan. On arrival, members determined that the doors had been left insecure when the business closed for the day, and a customer had set off the alarm when opening the door to enter. Nothing criminal occurred and nothing had been removed from the store.

A report of a theft from a local gas station was received. Police are obtaining surveillance video of the theft to assist in identifying the suspect. The matter remains under investigation.

Members responded to 53 calls for service from May 30 to early June 2.

According to the EPS, members were called to four reports of motor vehicle collisions. The EPS said nobody was injured during those incidents.

The EPS also had six disturbance calls. In each of those incidents, EPS members were able to mediate resolutions that did not result in criminal charges.

Police received two separate reports of assaults. Those matters are still under investigation.

While monitoring for traffic safety, officers identified eight violations over the weekend that resulted in tickets being issued for various offences.
