WINNIPEG — Several members of the Estevan Mermaids artistic swimming club wrapped up the 2024-25 season by attending the Canadian Prairie Championships in Winnipeg from May 1-4.
In the novice figures event, Kayden Pukas finished first, and Brinley Groenveld was third. Isabelle Pyra was tops in youth figures at 23rd. Also competing in that division were Rowyn Shier, Sierra Mantei, Ava Donison, Mahaley Fonstad and Rory Miller.
As for the routines, Shier finished seventh in the junior free solo with a score of 83.4563. Mantei was fifth in junior tech solo with a score of 121.7917.
The youth team finished 10th in their free swim with a routine score of 80.0226 and a championship score of 179.2066. Donison, Groenveld, Pyra, Pukas, Fonstad, Miller, Shier and Mantei all swam on the youth team. A post on the Mermaids' Facebook page noted it was a clean routine.
When not in the pool, the athletes spent time making and handing out pins and enjoying team-building activities.
