EFRS responds to equipment, grass fires, elevator rescue

Estevan Fire Rescue tackled multiple calls this week, including a tractor fire near Hirsch and two grass fires under investigation.

ESTEVAN — Estevan Fire Rescue responded to several incidents in recent days, including a tractor fire near Hirsch, two grass fires, elevator entrapment and fire alarm calls, Deputy Fire Chief Kyle Luc said Monday.

On April 29, crews were called to a . The fire was extinguished without incident and no injuries were reported. While the cause remains under investigation, Luc confirmed that damage was limited to the tractor itself and no other property was lost.

That same day, fire crews also responded to an elevator rescue at a local apartment building. Occupants were safely assisted from the elevator and no injuries were reported.

On May 3, firefighters tackled a grass fire northwest of the city, which was put out without incident. The cause is under investigation.

The following day, the duty officer was called to inspect a second grass fire north of Estevan. It had already been extinguished by the time duty officer arrived, but the passerby who reported it wanted to ensure the fire was completely out. No further action was needed.

On May 5, EFR responded to a commercial fire alarm in central Estevan, which turned out to be triggered by cooking. The alarm was reset with no further action required.

Earlier in the week, on April 28, a fire alarm call on the south side of the city was determined to be a false alarm due to a system issue.

No injuries were reported in any of the incidents.
