Environment Canada has issued a wind warning for numerous communities in northwestern Saskatchewan as strong westerly winds sweep across the region.
Winds reaching 70 km/h and gusting up to 90 km/h developed early Tuesday morning in areas such as Kindersley, ahead of a cold front moving through the province. Forecasters say the gusty conditions are expected to ease by early afternoon as the front passes.
The wind could cause damage to buildings, including roof shingles and windows, and pose risks to outdoor structures such as tents, awnings and soft shelters. Loose objects may also be picked up and tossed, creating hazards to people and property.
Residents are advised to secure outdoor items and take necessary precautions.
Communities under the wind warning include the rural municipalities of Antelope Park, Biggar, Chesterfield, Eye Hill, Grandview, Grass Lake, Heart's Hill, Kindersley, Mariposa, Marriott, Milton, Monet, Mountain View, Newcombe, Oakdale, Pleasant Valley, Prairiedale, Progress, Reford, Rosemount, Snipe Lake, St. Andrews, Tramping Lake and Winslow.
Environment Canada urges residents to stay informed by monitoring alerts and forecasts. Severe weather can be reported by emailing [email protected], calling 1-800-239-0484, or posting on social media using the hashtag #SKStorm.
